Katherine Stueve, 95, of Jackson passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau, with her family by her side.
She was born Dec. 19, 1918, in New Baden, Illinois, daughter of Thomas and Mary Anna Puntmann Shafer. She and John Stueve were married Jan. 27, 1946. He passed away Jan. 16, 1970.
Katherine was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church many years and was active in Ladies Aid. She was a longtime member of American Legion and VFW auxiliaries in Jackson. She worked at LeeRowan (now Rubbermaid) nine years, Jackson Senior Center 20 years, and was a riverboat cook (barge line) in her later years.
Loving survivors include a daughter, JoAnn (John) Childress of Bossier City, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; a daughter, Kathryn Hogan; a son, John Henry Stueve; two grandchildren; four brothers; and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lance officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
