KATHERINE ROOD

Katherine Elizabeth Rood, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

She was born April 4, 1909, in Southington, Ohio, daughter of Lester J. and Renna Susan Dungan Hurd. She and Homer Rood were married July 12, 1935.

Rood was a junior high and high school teacher in Hiram, Ohio, 22 years. She was a member of Disciples of Christ Church in Hiram, Hiram Women's Club, Hiram Research Club, and Northwestern Ohio Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Beverly Brooks of Carbondale, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel, with the Rev. John Annabell officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery in Hiram.
