Karol "Janie" Garris, 52, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, April 13, 2012, at her home.
She was born July 17, 1959, in Gideon, Mo., to Orval and Shirley Midkiff Deweese.
She and Gene Garris were married Sept. 4, 1993, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death March 18, 2011.
Janie attended Mississippi County Community College in Blytheville, Ark. She was a registered nurse and worked at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for 23 years before retiring.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include her mother, Shirley Deweese of Gideon; a stepson, Joseph Garris of Waterloo, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Garris of Columbia, Ill.; two sisters, Stacy (Don) Whitfield of Kennett, Mo., and Regina Schaffer of Malden, Mo.; one grandchild, Hannah Garris; two nieces, Kelsey Whitfield and Jillian Schaffer; two nephews, Dalton Whitfield and Zachary Schaffer.
She was preceded in death by her father; husband; grandmother, Carie Berry; and brother-in-law, Noel Schaffer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with Dr. Shawn Wasson officiating.
Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. Monday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
Memorial contributions may be given to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
