Karl H. Klein, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born May 17, 1935, in Cairo, Illinois, to George J. and Doris Bucher Klein. He and Barbara Jean Blank were married Aug. 26, 1953, at Corinth, Mississippi.
He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. He had been a fireman for the city of Cairo for 11 years, an electrician for Bunge Corp., also had been city superintendent at Cairo, and retired as general manager of Cairo Public Utilities after working there over 30 years. He was an honorary life member of Elks Lodge No. 651 in Cairo, member Masonic Lodge No. 0237 in Cairo 32nd degree and Ainad Shriners Temple in East St. Louis, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Klein of Cape Girardeau; sons, Kenny Klein of Mounds, Illinois, and Kevin (Mary) Klein of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Howard Klein of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Kelly Klein Hill, Jason Klein, Jared (Jessica) Klein and Jacob Klein; three great-grandchildren, Kagen, Chase and Aria; and sister-in-law, Peggy Klein of Cairo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marion Hurley and Karolyn Carr; four brothers, George F. Klein, John R. Klein, Bill R. Klein and Eddie C. Klein; and sister-in law, Rose Klein.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be said at 7 p.m., followed by KC rosary. Another short visitation will be held from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery-Villa Ridge in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Cathedral or Shriners Hospitals.
