CAIRO, Ill. -- Karen Roberts, 69, of Paducah, Kentucky, formerly of Cairo, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

She was born Nov. 22, 1947, in Cairo to James and Betty Barnes Roberts.

Karen was an avid reader and loved writing poetry.

She is survived by her stepmother, Lois Nye-Roberts of Cape Girardeau, several cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Illinois, with the Rev. Chris Majule officiating. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Crain Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
