SIKESTON -- Funeral for Karen Sue Akins of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hunter Memorial Presbyterian Church. Dr. Tom Bass will officiate, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.

Ponder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Akins, 41, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 23, 1956, at Holcomb, daughter of Nathan and Betty Rinker Gunther Jr. She married Lynn Akins March 5, 1988.

Akins was a second grade teacher at Southwest Elementary School in Sikeston, and member of Hunter Memorial Church.

Survivors include her husband; her parents of Kewanee; a brother, Mike Gunther of Dixon; and a sister, Mary Schneider of St. Charles.
