James "J.W." Jones of Delta passed away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born in Delta to Fangie Edward and Nellie Ann Borneman Jones. He married Joann Poinsett, who preceded him in death Nov. 11, 2000.
J.W. was a veteran of the United States Army and served in World War II.
He worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for Bechtel Corp. in California before retiring as a farmer. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 513 in St. Louis 62 years.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Barbara Fisher of Jackson, Jeffery Fowler of Cape Girardeau and Donna Williams of Crump; three stepgrandchildren; seven great-stepgrandchildren; a nephew, F.E. Jones III of Chattanooga, Tenn.; very special family friends, James (Christina) Hornbuckle, Rozlynn, Jaren, Carlaena and Paxton, all of Delta.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Fangie "Junior" Jones; and a niece, Judy Copeland.
Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, Mo.
Burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to McGuire Cemetery or Arbor General Baptist Church.
