ADVANCE, Mo. -- June Christine Wiggins Ferrier, 97, of Advance passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 12, 1919, at Advance, the daughter of John C. and Carrie E. Goodman Wiggins.
June retired after being a fifth-grade teacher for 33 years. She began teaching when she was 18 years old at the Greenbrier School. She then taught at the Sturdivant School and at the Advance, Morley, Mathews and Sikeston, Missouri, schools. She taught at the Berkley School District for 20 years. She later taught at South Iron School.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Advance.
June and Martin "Marty" Ferrier were united in marriage May 27, 1951, at Advance. He preceded her in death Dec. 23, 1987.
Survivors include nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Bud Wiggins; and two sisters, Rosemary Rachel and Martha Mitchel.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Eric Shrum officiating. Burial will be at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
