He was born Jan. 27, 1932, in Jackson, son of Allois G. and Lulah M. Petzoldt Philipps. He and Janet Reimann were united in holy matrimony at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills on Sept. 24, 1966. She survives.

Julius was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where he was baptized and confirmed, and was an active member of the Men's Club and Dart Ball Club. He was a member of the American Legion, where he served his Lord as the chaplain.

Julius' employment included Missouri Barge Lines, Kroger, a custodian at Cape Girardeau Central High School and, in later years, a custodian of St. Paul Lutheran School. He was proud to carry on his family heritage by continuing to live and raise his family on the family farm on which he was born. He continued to operate the farm on a daily basis, until most recently, when his health began to fail. Julius loved to hunt, especially deer hunting, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

To cherish his memory, he leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 54 years; two daughters, Sandra (Mark) Barr and Carolyn Wood, both of Jackson; son, Steven Philipps of Jackson; seven grandchildren, Lauren (Cory) Johns, Kaleb Barr, Ariel Barr, Megan Wood, Parker Philipps, Johnathon Philipps and Elijah Philipps; brother, Melbert Philipps of Sikeston, Missouri; and sister, Ell O'Dean (the late Robert) Knight of Scott City.
