Julius Ray Newell, 70, of Essex, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born April 13, 1935, in Balwin, Miss., son of Barney Lee and Lucy Reeves Newell. He and Marie Crosno were married on May 6, 1988 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She died Aug. 17, 2001...

Julius Ray Newell, 70, of Essex, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 13, 1935, in Balwin, Miss., son of Barney Lee and Lucy Reeves Newell. He and Marie Crosno were married on May 6, 1988 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She died Aug. 17, 2001.

Newell was a former maintenance employee of the Sikeston John Deere Equipment Company.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Newell of Cape Girardeau and Stevie Lee Newell of Bloomfield, Mo.; three daughters, Debbie Horton of Leachville, Ark., Vickie Lollar of Clinton, Tenn., and Charlotte Carmichael of Blytheville, Ark.; four stepsons, Theodore Crosno of Gilbertsville, Ky., Buford Crosno of Burton, Mich., A.J. Crosno of Zalma, Mo., and Allen Crosno of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Blanche Jerls of Flint, Mich., June Freeman of Bell City, Mo., and Shirley Heigle of Mayersville, Miss.; 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
