Juliene Carolyn Beard, 92, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015, at The Lutheran Home. She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Leon F. and Flora E. (Werner) Brinkopf. She and William R. Beard were united in marriage June 21, 1944, at Whiting Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. He passed away March 29, 1993...

Juliene Carolyn Beard, 92, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015, at The Lutheran Home.

She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Leon F. and Flora E. (Werner) Brinkopf.

She and William R. Beard were united in marriage June 21, 1944, at Whiting Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida. He passed away March 29, 1993.

Juliene was a graduate of Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau, where she was named "Girl Athlete of the Year" in 1936. She graduated from Central High School in 1940 and from Southeast Missouri State University in 1944. At Southeast, she was a member of the Clio Society.

She taught art and music in Chaffee R-ll Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1987. In prior years, she taught in Festus, Diehlstadt and Sikeston, Missouri, and at Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau.

She and her husband owned and operated Beard's Sports Shop on Broadway in Cape for many years. She was an avid card player, belonging to several card clubs. She especially enjoyed playing cards with family.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Missouri State Teachers Association.

Survivors include two sons, Donald (Patricia) Beard of Cape Girardeau and Daniel (Deborah) Beard of Cape Girardeau; three grandsons, Brian (Anna-Marie) Beard of Ironton, Missouri, Jason Beard of Cape Girardeau and Jeffrey (Charlsie) Beard of Nashville, Tennessee; one granddaughter, Laura (Ben) Foster of Kennett, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Knox Beard, Tobin Beard, Reese Foster and Rhett Foster; three step-grandsons, Eric Rothe of The Woodlands, Texas, Ben (Rachel) Rothe of Spring, Texas, and Daniel (Angela) Rothe of Flower Mound, Texas; and three step-great-grandchildren, Jamie Sharkey, Sarah Rothe and Abraham Rothe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Leon C. Brinkopf; and sister, Marilyn Gross.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
