Judith M. Schott, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at her home.

She was born Dec. 19, 1938, in Cairo, Illinois, to LeeRoy and Dorothy Peddie McCowen. She and Harold Schott were married Sept. 3, 1960, at Cape Girardeau.

Judy was very active throughout her life in serving the Lord and helping people.

She graduated from Cairo High School in 1956 and from Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1959. Judy then put her education into practice as a registered nurse at Saint Francis Hospital/Medical Center for several years. She later taught at Metro Business College.

She was program coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for seven years. She was Notre Dame High School Foundation development director two-and-a-half years. She served on the Council of Catholic Women and parish council. Judy served as president of Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary from 1979 to 1984. She also served on the WISER Board Center, and the Women’s Center and Safe House.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Schott of Cape Girardeau; son, Jeff Schott of Cape Girardeau; sister, Nancy Joyner of Kevil, Kentucky; and grandson, Jesse (Ciara) Schott of Desloge, Missouri. She also is survived by nine nieces and seven nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Katherine Schott; brother, Charles McCowen; and sister, Rose Mary Shepherd.

Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Joe Kelly officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Notre Dame Regional High School Foundation or Southeast Hospice.
