POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Judith Clark Garlock, 59, of Paupack, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at her home, following a long battle with lung cancer.
She was born in Poplar Bluff, daughter of Leo T. and Ruby Idella Phelps Clark. She and Jon A. Garlock were married Aug. 10, 1963.
Judy had lived in Paupack since 1973. She was formerly of East Brunswick, N.J.
She was a highly respected elementary teacher in the Wallenpaupack Area School District 25 years. Her service began at the Old Paupack School. Prior to her death she was head second grade teacher at Wallenpaupack North Primary School.
Judy taught elementary school in Allegheny County and Springfield, Pa., and East Brunswick.
She attended Sacred Heart School and Poplar Bluff High School. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1963. She completed graduate courses at Duquesne University, University of Pittsburgh and Rutgers University.
Judy was a member of St. Veronica's Roman Catholic Church in Paupack. She was an avid reader and loved growing and caring for flowers. Her "green thumb" was recognized by all of her friends and associates.
She was a devoted wife, mother and educator. Her heart and home were always open to students and friends for any need. She was a "second mother" to many young people. Her radiant smiles, encouragement and genuine concerns touched the lives of hundreds. Judy refrained from recognition for any accomplishments. She was most comfortable in making certain that any assignment was completed properly. She never permitted life's circumstances to depress her.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dr. Jason A. Garlock and Dr. Jordan Garlock of Portland, Maine; two sisters, Carol Rock of Villa Hills, Ky., Patti Losh of North Hills, Calif.; a brother, Ken Clark of Poplar Bluff; and nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call at Teeters' Funeral Chapel in Hawley, Pa., from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Hawley. The Rev. William B. Healey, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Paupack.
