CAIRO, Ill. -- Judi Childers, 66, of Cairo died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 16, 1951, in Cairo, the daughter of William Strong and Mary (Myers) Winter. She married Donald "Donnie" Childers on June 11, 1971. He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 2016...

CAIRO, Ill. -- Judi Childers, 66, of Cairo died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 16, 1951, in Cairo, the daughter of William Strong and Mary (Myers) Winter. She married Donald "Donnie" Childers on June 11, 1971. He preceded her in death Feb. 2, 2016.

Judi worked at Community Health and Emergency Services and many years for Dr. Gemo Wong. She had a big heart and a passion for animals. She was a Red Cross volunteer and was involved in animal rescue. Judi was a member of the Church of the Redeemer.

Survivors include two sons, James Paul "JP" (Andrea) Childers of St. Joseph, Illinois, and William Todd Childers of Champaign, Illinois; two grandchildren, Charles William "Will" Childers and Adelyn "Addi" Childers; one brother William "Bill" (Mia) Winter, of Rosewood, California; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation for Judi will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Redeemer in Cairo.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with Father James Muriuki officiating. Interment will follow at Mound City National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Redeemer. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.

Crain Funeral Home in Cairo is in charge of the arrangements.
