Joyce Brown Bowen, 56, of 332 N. Louisiana, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1993, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Feb. 11, 1937, at Cape Girardeau, daughter of Elwood and Rubye Spencer Brown.
She married John Bowen, Dec. 31, 1958.
Bowen was an secretary and office manager at the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau.
She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, where she was a member of Kappa Pi, Art Honorary Fraternity, Sigma Tau Delta, English Honorary Fraternity and Kappa Tau Gamma Sorority.
She taught art and history in the Bonne Terre, East Prairie and Bernie public schools before taking the position with the First Presbyterian Church.
Bowen had also previously worked as a Permissions Editor at MacMillian Publishing Company and Random House, during a five-year residency in New York City.
She was a member at First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her mother of Cape Girardeau; her husband; and three brothers, S. Dean Brown, of Indianapolis, Ind., R.E. Skip Brown of St. Louis, C. Gene Brown of Kansas City, Mo.
Friends may call at from 4-7 p.m. today at the Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
