BENTON, Mo. -- Joyce Diane Austin, 68, of Benton died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at her home.

She was born Dec. 3, 1952, in Cape Girardeau to Charles William and Delphine Bertha Glastetter Backfisch. She married James Austin on April 15, 1983, in Benton.

She worked for Florsheim Shoe Company for 23 years and currently was owner of Austin Apartments. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton.

Joyce is survived by her husband, James Austin of Benton; two sons, Roger and Kenny Wayne Austin of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Tammy Renee Nelson of Cape Girardeau and Susan Marie (Bradley) Sutton of Shohamisch, Washington; five brothers, Paul (Nancy) Backfisch of Scott City; Sylvester (Lorene) Backfisch and Vernon (Linda) Backfisch of Benton; Dennis (Janice) Backfisch of Abilene, Texas; and Carl (Becky) Backfisch of Tucson, Arizona; four sisters, Norma Miller of Benton; Mary (Tom) Farris of Thebes, Illinois,; Ruth Ann (Jeri) Gowin of Kingsford Heights, Indiana; and Carol (Kenny) Lee of Chaffee, Missouri; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert and James.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton. Rosary will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Denis Catholic Church with the Rev. Bala Swamy Govindu as celebrant. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
