Joyce Lavonne Abernathy, 88, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at Life Care Center.
She was born Nov. 12, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to the late Folla and Aline "Dolly" Proctor Dankel.
Joyce was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau. She was a real estate broker in Carbondale, Illinois, later in Atlanta and then back in Cape Girardeau. She won many awards in Illinois, Georgia and Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Scott Abernathy of Wolf Lake, Illinois; daughters, Kristen D. (Michael E.) Eckert of Atlanta and Beth Ann (Brad) Wilson of Tamms, Illinois; sister, Shirley A. Harrison of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Matt Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Lindsey Pender and Jordan Beattie; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, William Matthew Abernathy.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral will be at noon Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, Illinois.
Memorial donations may be given to Southern Illinois University Special Olympics.
