POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Joseph Tinsley, 90, of Poplar Bluff passed away at his home Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013.

He was born Jan. 15, 1923, at Lilbourn, Mo., son of Gustavus and Amanda Tinsley. He and Dona Lewis were married Christmas Day in 1941 at Lilbourn. She preceded him in death Nov. 25, 2010.

Tinsley was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was awarded Bronze Stars for his service in New Guinea and the Philippines, before returning to farming in Lilbourn, New Madrid, Mo., and later in Puxico, Mo., and Marble Hill, Mo. For the past five years he has made his home in Poplar Bluff with his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bob Dever. He was a member of Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center.

He is survived by a son, Danny Joe (Diane) Tinsley of Platte Wood, Mo.; a daughter, Linda (Dr. Robert) Dever of Poplar Bluff; two granddaughters, Rene' (Dr. Michael) Berry of Platte Wood and Regina (Bryan) Stevenson of Joplin, Mo.; five great-grandchildren, Natalie and Cameron Berry of Platte Wood and Preston, Julianna and Adam Stevenson of Joplin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Lawrence; and four sisters, Jennie Jacobucci, Ann Hailey, Rosalee Wagner and Zallah Bell.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. today at Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. at Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.

Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill is in charge of arrangements.
