SIKESTON, Mo. -- Joseph Earnest Stanberry, 73, of Sikeston died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Whaley, Miss., son of Allen Levi and Elnora Nicks Stanberry. The family moved to Bell City, Mo., in 1938. He was inducted into the Army in 1952 during the Korean War and left the service in 1956 with the rank of sergeant. He and Auga Reatha Warfield were married Sept. 26, 1959, in Chicago...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Joseph Earnest Stanberry, 73, of Sikeston died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at his home.

He was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Whaley, Miss., son of Allen Levi and Elnora Nicks Stanberry. The family moved to Bell City, Mo., in 1938.

He was inducted into the Army in 1952 during the Korean War and left the service in 1956 with the rank of sergeant. He and Auga Reatha Warfield were married Sept. 26, 1959, in Chicago.

He was a member of the Powerhouse of God Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Patricia Pollard of Memphis, Tenn., and Sabrina Stanberry and Yolanda Stanberry, both of Sikeston; a son, Jeffery Stanberry of Sikeston; a sister, Corrine Patterson of Chicago; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 12 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Betty Ware will officiate, with burial at Warfield Cemetery in Oran, Mo., with full military honors.

Williams-Farr and Purnell Funeral Home in Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
