CAIRO, Ill. -- Joseph R. Greer, 70, of Cairo, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1993, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion.
He was born Sept. 23, 1922, in West Point, Ky., son of Roscoe and Hattie Chism Greer.
Greer was a retired river boat captain, and member of Cairo VFW Post 2649. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Zivec of Joliet; two brothers, William Greer of Cairo, and Drexel Greer of Mounds.
His wife, Shirley, died in 1992. He was also preceded in death by a brother and stepmother.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Chapel here. The Rev. Kenneth Provines will officiate, with burial in National Cemetery at Mound City.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
