Joseph Edmond Gockel, 72, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Gus and Mary Collins Gockel. He and Kathryn Harvell were married Aug. 13, 1943, in Jackson.
Gockel worked at Lone Star Industries as a chemistry lab technician for 43 years, until his retirement.
He was a member of the Baptist faith and served on the Marquette school board for 17 years. He also was a member of the Eagles Aerie and a 4-H club leader.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jack L. Gockel of Olive Branch, Miss., and Joe Gockel Jr., of Scott City; a daughter, Sondra Gockel of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Gus Gockel Jr. of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ford & Sons' Mount Auburn Chapel.
Graveside service will be held at Lorimier Cemetery Tuesday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating.
