MARBLE HILL -- Joseph G. VanGennip, 80, of Marble Hill died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 13, 1912, the son of Robert J. and Frances Holzum VanGennip. On May 1, 1937, he married Bertie Mansker, who preceded him in death Oct. 21, 1977...

MARBLE HILL -- Joseph G. VanGennip, 80, of Marble Hill died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 13, 1912, the son of Robert J. and Frances Holzum VanGennip. On May 1, 1937, he married Bertie Mansker, who preceded him in death Oct. 21, 1977.

He was a retired construction worker, a member of the AFL-CIO Local #110 in Marble Hill, and for the past 15 years, he worked with his son at VanGennip Oil Company in Marble Hill. He's a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, and the St. Isidore Council #5898 Knights of Columbus in Leopold.

Survivors include a son, Robert L. VanGennip of Glen Allen; a daughter, Imogene VanGennip of Marble Hill; a sister, Mary Seiler of O'Fallon; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and a grandson.

Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, where parish prayer service will be at 7 p.m., followed by a 7:30 Knights of Columbus rosary.

Funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold. Fr. Michael Casteel will officiate, and burial will be in the Baker Cemetery near Marble Hill.
