Joseph E. Bass, age 73, of Pocahontas passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 12, 1939, in Cape Girardeau to Orville and Elpha Venable Bass. He and Clara L. Conklin were married Dec. 19, 1959. She preceded him in death July 20, 2013.
Joe was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged from service Sept. 30, 1965. Joe worked at the former Superior Electric Co. in Cape Girardeau and retired due to failing health in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Linda (the late Terry) Bass and their children, Morgan and Jordan of Pocahontas and Ryan of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Jarad Bass of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, William Eugene Bass of Tuscon, Ariz., and Gerald Bass of Camp Verde, Ariz.; one sister, Betty Skinner of Phoenix; sister-in-law Ruth (the late Orville Jr.) Bass of Norman, Okla.; and two brothers-in-law, Ray (Virginia) Conklin of Kelso, Mo., and Jack (Carolyn) Conklin of Cape Girardeau.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sons, Toby Bass on July 10, 2002, and Terry Bass on March 22, 2010; two brothers, Orville Bass Jr., and his twin brother Jack Bass; and a sister, Juanita Nance.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rodger Rice officiating.
Interment will follow in Hobbs Chapel Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military honors. Memorials may take the form of contributions to the charity or church of donor's choice.
