Joseph Albert Schmidt, 88, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, March 12, 1994, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. Joseph Albert Schmidt, 88, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, March 12, 1994, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 18, 1905, at Cape Girardeau, son of Joseph and Agnes Relergert Schmidt.
Schmidt retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II and the Korean War. He also worked as a security guard in New York.
He has lived at the Missouri Veterans Home since June 1993.

Survivors include a son, Joseph A. Schmidt of Brookline, Mass.; two daughters, JoDonna Masters of Las Vegas, Nev., Barbara Brockett of Jackson; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
McCombs Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of funeral arrangements.
