Jon Lynn Steinhoff, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, June 10, 2018, surrounded by family.
He was born Oct. 11, 1934, in Cape Girardeau to Hubert Harry and Clara Willamina Lange Steinhoff. He and Marie Anthony were married Sept. 12, 1959, at Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
He served in the Army in the Korean War.
He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration, a bachelor of arts degree in physical education, a master's degree in physical education, a specialist's degree in physical education and a doctor in philosophy degree, with a major in physical education.
He taught and was assistant director at University High in Cape Girardeau. He also taught at Shawnee High School and Scott City High School.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Steinhoff of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Karen (Michael) Cowell of Sikeston, Missouri; a son, Jon Lynn Steinhoff Jr. of Laurel, Mississippi; stepson, Darrell Steinhoff of Boulder, Colorado; a grandchild, Shelby York; and a great-grandchild, Gavin York.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Laura Steinhoff.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Cantwell officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with full military honors.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
