Johnny Wayne Newell Jr., 48, of Oak Ridge passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 2, 1967, in Cape Girardeau, son of Johnny W. and Christine Edwards Newell Sr.

Johnny attended Jackson High School. He worked 10 years for Mr. Muffler in Cape Girardeau, and was self-employed as an auto mechanic. He shod and broke horses, and won several buckles for competition cattle-roping. He enjoyed fishing, rock crawling with Jeeps, and loved being with family.

Loving survivors include a son, Justin Scheper (partner, Dustin) of Jackson; his mother and stepfather, Clinton and Christine Ruppel of Oak Ridge; his father and stepmother, Johnny Wayne and Cheryl Newell Sr. of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Brandy (Justin) Walker of Orlando, Florida, and Tessa Newell (fiance, Tanner) of Oak Ridge; two nieces, Harper and Berkley; and a nephew, Grasyn.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, John and Allene Edwards; paternal grandparents, John Adam and Dessie Newell; and two uncles, Terry Lane Newell and Adam Newell.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Steven Koerner and Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Old Salem Methodist Church Cemetery near Millersville.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the family for Johnny's monument.
