NEW MADRID -- Johnny Mack Mays, 46, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after an automobile accident.
He was born June 21, 1951, in Tennessee to Robert and Flossie Mays, and had lived in New Madrid since 1983.
He is survived by his mother of Humboldt, Tenn.; nine sisters, Betty Payne, Janice Midgett, Brenda Sutton and Arnita Mays of New Madrid, Shirley Cruz of Hayti, Diane Mays of Clarksville, Tenn., Clarice Mays of Humboldt, Tenn., and Ann Crayton of Huntington, Tenn., and Gladys Byrd of Michigan; four brothers, Roy Mays of Humboldt, Tenn., Robert Mays of Michigan and Sammy Mays and Willie Mays of Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Williams-Farr and Purnell Funeral Home in Howardville. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Friendship Church of God in Christ in Howardville with Marvelle Cranford officiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery at New Madrid.
