BENTON -- John Edward Ziegler, 49, of Benton died Monday, March 6, 2000, at his home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1950, at Cape Girardeau, son of John Ziegler and Coletta Scherer Ziegler.

He was owner and operator of Ziegler Construction Co. He had been a past commander of American Legion Post 369 in Benton.

He was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church.

He was graduated from Thomas W. Kelly High School in 1969 and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was a former Boy Scout Leader of Troop 25, T-ball and Babe Ruth Bambino baseball coach, and a member of Ducks Unlimited. He served in the National Guard.

Survivors include a son, Mark Ziegler of Benton; two daughters, Crystal Ziegler of Jefferson City and Kristen Ziegler of Newnan, Ga.; two brothers, Harold Ziegler of Kansas City, Kan., and Jerome Ziegler of Jackson; six sisters, Irma Beussink of Jackson, Mary Horrell of Chaffee, LaVerne Heuring of Benton, Josephine Terry of Anthony, Fla., Geri Riley of Blodgett, and Joyce Schilling of George West, Texas; two uncles, Paul Ziegler of Benton, Cyril Scherer of Cape Girardeau; an aunt, Marie Hibbing from California; a special friend, Debbie Gregory of Jackson; and special friends of children, Matt Albers and Janet Priest, both of Jefferson City.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Funeral Chapel in Benton. Parish prayers will be said at 6:30, with the rosary to be said at 7 by Knights of Columbus 6420 of Scott City.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Denis Catholic Church. The Rev. Normand Varone will officiate. Burial will be in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery in Benton.
