John William Hon Sr., 72, of Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, March 3, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Nov. 17, 1921, at Parma, son of Clarence and Victoria Brown Hon. He and Dorothy J. Stanfill were married Dec. 25, 1945, at Parma.
Hon worked at Barkett's Big Star in Sikeston, owned and operated Hon's Fairway Grocery from 1966-73, and then was a butcher at Bloemer's Grocery in Sikeston.
He was a charter member of VFW Post in Parma, member of American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston, and member of Miner Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Hon Jr. of Emporia, Kan., Ron Hon of Sikeston; a daughter, Debbie Burns of Huntsville, Ala., and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kendall Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sikeston, with military rites conducted by Company C of 1140th Engineers Battalion of Missouri National Guard in Sikeston.
