WHITEWATER -- John W. Deneke, 98, of Whitewater, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1995, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 5, 1897, in Gordonville, son of William H. and Sophia Sander Deneke. He and Sophia Louise Neumeyer were married March 8, 1930. She died Oct. 18, 1984.
Deneke had been involved in farming and agriculture, and was a beekeeper. He received an award from Missouri Department of Conservation.
He was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church in Gordonville, had been Sunday School superintendent, and was a charter member of the Men's Club. He served on the Maple Grove School Board, and was a member of Whitewater Livestock Shipping Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Friedrich of Whitewater, Carol Wedekind of Webster Groves; a sister, Nora Daniel of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, six sisters and a grandson.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today, and Friday after 9:30 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Conway Briscoe III officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
