SIKESTON -- John Turner Sikes, 88, of Sikeston died Saturday, April 22, 1995, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Feb. 1, 1907, to Alfred and Leah Kendall Sikes. He was a descendent and namesake of the founder of Sikeston, John Sikes.
He married Julia T. Kingsbury on Oct. 30, 1929, in Boonville. She preceded him in death on June 1, 1988.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue Potashnick of Sikeston and Sally Crosnoe of Cape Girardeau, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A brother and sister preceded him in death.
Sikes was a farmer and merchant who was co-owner and operator of Sikes Hardware and Sikes Sporting Goods stores in Sikeston.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston and served on the Board of Education for Sikeston Public Schools for many years.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. A graveside memorial and committal service will be in the family lot of Sikeston City Cemetery at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Charles E. Buck officiating.
