John Tallman

John C. "Jack" Tallman, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born June 20, 1926, in Chicago.

Tallman was a graduate of Arizona State University. Formerly of Cairo, Ill., he was owner of Tallman-Robbins Printing Co. in Chicago and Springfield, Ill., Delta Business Forms in Cairo and JTA Printing in Mount Carmel and Cairo.

He was chairman of the board of directors of Community Health and Emergency Services in Cairo 16 years and was instrumental in building the medical clinic in Cairo.

Tallman was a member of Cairo Baptist Church, Cairo Rotary Club, Cairo Elks Lodge 651, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, American Legion and Union League Club in Chicago.

He was a radio operator with the U.S. Navy on the USS Essex during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two daughters, Marcie Ince of San Antonio, Texas, Constance Dyak of Wellington, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Karen Freeman of Gordonville; two stepsisters, Mary Fost of Lake Forest, Ill., Pat Smaha of Chicago; a stepbrother, William Penick of California; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may call at Cairo Baptist Church after 10 a.m. Thursday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds, Ill., with military honors by Pulaski County Memorial VFW Post 8894 of Mounds.
