MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- John D. Strayhorn, 61, of Murphysboro, died Sunday, March 17, 1996, at Vencore Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Oct. 7, 1934, in Milan, Tenn., son of Arbie and Louise Drake Strayhorn. He married Ella Mae Wilson, who died May 27, 1971.
Strayhorn was formerly of East Prairie, Mo., and had worked at Bridger Plumbing in Sikeston, Mo.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Dixon and Deloris Fennell of Murphysboro; eight sons, William and Roy Dixon of Kansas City, Mo., Thomas Dixon of Indianapolis, Ind., Oliver and Donald Dixon and Benny Strayhorn of Jefferson City, Mo., Joseph Dixon of San Diego, Calif., Robert Dixon of Murphysboro.
Also surviving are his mother of Pinhook, Mo.; three brothers, Larry Strayhorn of Charleston, Mo., Willie Strayhorn of Cairo, Roy Strayhorn of Pinhook; five sisters, Rosie Porter, Mary Robinson and Mary Louise Strayhorn of Pinhook, Alma Williams of Charleston, Joyce Jefro of Carbondale, and 15 grandchildren.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston, Mo., from 7-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Union Baptist Church in Pinhook, with the Rev. Willie Eadie officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.
