LOOSE CREEK -- Funeral for John Henry Stratman of Loose Creek was held Jan. 6 at Immaculate Conception Church in Loose Creek. The Rev. Richard Cronin officiated, with burial in the church cemetery.
Morton Funeral Home at Linn was in charge of arrangements.
Stratman, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City.
He was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Vienna, son of John F. and Bertha Bauer Stratman. He and Helen Castrop were married Aug. 25, 1956, in Westphalia.
Stratman received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Central Missouri State University, and a master's degree in administration from the University of Missouri.
He worked in the education field 46 years. He was a teacher 21 years at several schools, including Brinktown, Wiles, Leopold, Fatima, and St. Joseph at Westphalia. He was also elementary school principal at Leopold and Fatima.
Stratman served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and received two Bronze Combat Stars with United Nations Service Medals.
He was a member of Immaculate Church, Bonnots Mill Knights of Columbus Council 2027, St. Jude's Assembly, Vocare Club, Legion of Mary, Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, Missouri State Teachers Association, and Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Greg Stratman of Marble Hill, Terry Stratman of Versailles; a daughter, Judy Heckman of Jefferson City; five brothers, Ed, Jim and Charlie Stratman of Vienna, Herb and Harold Stratman of Freeburg; three sisters, Viola Chambers of Vienna, Mary McKinnon of Dixon, Irene Kampeter of St. Louis; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
