CHARLESTON -- Funeral for John D. Stephens of Charleston will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Collier will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Villa Ridge, Ill.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time.
Stephens, 90, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
He was born Nov. 22, 1908, in Adrian, son of John William and Lelia Ethel Chapman Stephens. He and Laura Schwieger were married Dec. 2, 1988.
Stephens worked at the Kansas City Star Newspaper 27 years. He was a member of a Baptist church in North Kansas City. He moved to Charleston in 1990 from Kansas City.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Murray Schwieger of Charleston; a daughter, Robin Gibson of Paducah; and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
