John Snead, 81, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at his home.

He was born Jan. 6, 1932, in St. Louis County, Mo., to John R. and Lena Welch Snead. He and Carol Revelle were married Dec. 9, 1989.

John was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army, serving honorably from Dec. 1, 1952, to Oct. 14, 1954. He worked 40 years as manager of the food service department at the former McDonell Douglas Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis. He retired in 1985 and moved to Jackson, where he worked at the Jaycee Golf Course; in food service at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau; and as a custodian at North Elementary School in Fruitland, retiring in the late 1990s.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife, Carol, of Jackson; two daughters, Joann (Steve) Paul of Wichita, Kan., and Suzann (Kenny) Cass of Benton, Ky.; two stepdaughters, Donna (Earl) Isley and Sharon (Gran) Murdock, all of Rifle, Colo.; one brother, Harold (Sophie) Snead of O'Fallon, Mo.; one sister, Betty (Jack) Grumke of Bridgton, Mo.; four grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Rhodes officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church in Jackson.
