EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- John Richard Smith, 66, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Mississippi County, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at his home.

Born Nov. 24, 1934, in Risco, Mo., he was a son of Ralph A. Smith and Johnnie Frye Smith Woods.

Smith was a retired truck driver and had been employed by Kramer Hauling in Kimmswick, Mo.

He was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

On Dec. 8, 1958, he married Jewell Williams, who died Aug. 1, 1980. On Feb. 18, 1992, he married Billie Jo Short, who survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Don Franklin Smith, address unknown, Ralph LeRoy and Ricky Wayne Smith, both of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Loretta Sue Smith of Marble Hill, Mo.; three brothers, Don Smith and Jimmy Woods of Sikeston, Mo., and Kenny Woods of East Prairie; one sister, Helen Wynn of Little Elm, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. David Pringle, pastor of the Lighthouse Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
