THEBES, Ill. -- John Simmons of Granite City, formerly of Thebes and Gale, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1992, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City.
He was born July 22, 1902, at Tunnel Hill, son of Jerry and Mary Jackson Simmons. He and Mary Morgan were married Sept. 10, 1929.
Simmons was employed by Union Pacific Railroad 26 years, and had been a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Tora Porchie of Granite City; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Granite City.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.
