John Henry Siemer, 81, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 27, 1939, in Vrees, Germany, the second youngest of six children of Johann and Maria Baker Siemer.
John immigrated to America in 1960. He initially settled in St. Louis to work as a butcher for IGA. It was there he met Irmgard Maria Schonlau, who had also immigrated to America from Germany. They married Nov. 11, 1961.
In February 1963, John enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being honorably discharged Feb 6, 1965, he and Irmgard returned to St. Louis. In 1971, John became a citizen of the United States and moved to Jackson as he purchased the C.H. Sander Hardware Co., known today as Siemer's Appliances and Service.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include a son, Anthony (Joyce) Siemer of Friedheim; daughters, Dr. Deanna Siemer and her husband, Kevin Welker, and Andrea (Chris) Marchi, all of Jackson; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Irmgard Siemer, and his parents.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop officiating. A private interment with military honors will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
