STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- John Reid Schott, 77, of Ste. Genevieve died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, Missouri. STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- John Reid Schott, 77, of Ste. Genevieve died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, Missouri.

He was born May 7, 1937, in Cape Girardeau, son of George and Dorothy Oney Schott.

John was an engineer on the Frisco Railroad 10 1/2 years, and worked at River Cement 35 years. He was a past president of Local D-455 Boiler Makers Union at River Cement. He owned and operated John's Appliance in Bloomsdale, Missouri, from 1972 to 1987. He was a member of Golden Age Club in Ste. Genevieve.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Schott of Ste. Genevieve; a son, Thomas (Marilyn) Schott of Jackson; three daughters, Carrie St. Clair, Melinda (Dave) Wolk and Margaret (Steve) Gettinger, all of Ste. Genevieve; two sisters, Georgia (Allen) Schilli of Ozora, Missouri, and Laura (Adrian) Naeger of Zell, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Candy Schott of Zell; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Randy and Samuel Scholl; and two grandsons, Ethan Schott and Jeremy St. Clair.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Paul Hassler officiating. Burial will be in Crestlawn Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association and American Heart Association.
