John Schlichting

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- John W. Schlichting, 70, of Perryville died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1942, in Perry County, to John C. and Ruth Barber Schlichting. He and Dolores A. Hennemann were married Sept. 3, 1982, in Perryville.

John had worked at East Perry Lumber Co. and also farmed. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and working on farm equipment, and loved gardening. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dodie Schlichting of Perryville; two daughters, Sherry Ballard of Rockford, Ind., Debra Schumer of Cape Girardeau; a son, Dean Newell of Beebe, Ark.; three sisters, Sharon Miranda of Washington, Mo., Ruth Ann Kruss of Cape Girardeau, Michelle Goodwin of Slaughter, Ky.; a dear nephew, Jim Schlichting of Frohna, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charley Schlichting; and an infant sister.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Monday at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Kevin P. Fausz will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
