John Mack Sanders, 91, an old-time country fiddler born Nov. 28, 1914, on the family farm near Commerce, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Alexian Brothers-Sherbrooke Village Skilled Nursing Facility in St. Louis.

He had lived in the Illmo-Scott City area all of his life, until just two years ago. Son of Henry Wilson Sanders and Hulda Franziska Sander, he was the most beloved husband of the late Irene "Renie" Held; loving father of Evelyn Sue (the late Elmer R. Maurath) (Rudolph M.) Clapp; and Richard Lee (the late Mary Ruth Adams) (Margie Huey) Sanders; beloved grandfather of the Rev. Lee (Penny) Sanders, Rachelle (Larry) Guess, John Louis Maurath, Joseph J. (Nancy) Maurath, Gregory R. Maurath, Linda Irene (Keith) Smith, Jacqueline Marie (Michael) Mulder, Cheryl A. (the late Michael) Turlin, and Connie L. (Kevin) Hinderer, all from the St. Louis area.

He was great-grandfather of 30, and great-great-grandfather of 10. Loving brother of Louis E. (the late Frances) Sanders of Cape Girardeau, Ordelia "Jackie" (the late Edwin "Eddie") Wahrhausen, and Mary A. (the late Dr. John) Bull, both of Hannibal, Mo.

The following brothers and sisters preceded him in death: Lena (Cot) Spradlin, Lucille (Walter) McCarty, Adam H. Sanders, Mae (Orvel) Keesee, his twin sister Susan A. Sanders, William B. Sanders, James Richmond (Nancy) Sanders, and Jennie M. (Don) Schmitt.

John Mack was the cutting-room foreman at Ely-Walker Garment Factory in Scott City, where he was employed for 30 years, retiring in 1966.

John Mack's special hobbies were old-time country music, guns, and dogs, and he loved God and family.

The wake will be held Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be held at the chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, with the Rev. Lee Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Eisleben Lutheran Cemetery, Scott City.
