John Raymond Chapman, 67, died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 1994, at his home in Cape Girardeau after a short illness.
He was born March 9, 1927, in Advance to Walter and Anna Hedge Chapman. He married Betty J. Reed Dec. 16, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. She survives.
Chapman grew up in Advance. During World War II, his family moved to Cape Girardeau. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He worked for the Eagle Stamp Co., Life and Casualty Insurance Co., Montgomery Ward Co. and the Biederman Furniture Co. For the last 31 years of his career, he worked for the Pioneer Paper and Nationwide Paper Cos. He retired in 1979.
He was a member of the Lynnwood Baptist Church. During the last seven years, he was very active in ALSAC, the fund-raising arm of the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Other survivors include two sons, Raymond Gale of Santa Fe, N.M., and Steven of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Lloyd and Calvin, both of Cape Girardeau and Kenneth of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Verona Lee Trickey of Jonesboro, Ark., and Betty Ramsey of Cape Girardeau; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson and Dr. Andy Pratt officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
