SIKESTON -- John "Rance" Sherry, 87, of Sikeston died Jan. 17, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was a farmer, and in 1977 was inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He was born Sept. 21, 1905, in Crowder, Mo., to the late William Sanford and Dora Ellen Acord Sherry. SIKESTON -- John "Rance" Sherry, 87, of Sikeston died Jan. 17, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was a farmer, and in 1977 was inducted into the SEMO Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.

He was born Sept. 21, 1905, in Crowder, Mo., to the late William Sanford and Dora Ellen Acord Sherry. He married Bessie C. Daniels on Dec. 31, 1926, in Van Buren. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Allen Sherry of Wright City, Mo., Gerald Sherry of Cambria, Ill., and Ronald Sherry of Collinsville, Ill.; six daughters, Betty Smith of Carbondale, Mary Lou Vangilder, Norma Maddox and Wanda Withers, all of Sikeston, Laura Young of Lockport, Ill., and Peggy Whittom of Fairview Heights, Ill.; one brother, Thurman Sherry of Cheyenne, Wy.; two sisters, Beatrice Botton of Seattle, and Lorene Lake of Modesto, Calif.; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Kelley Grubbs, pastor of the Murray Lane Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
