John Reed Brandt, 49, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Capital Regional Medical Center Southwest in Jefferson City.

He was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Cape Girardeau, son of William and Ruth Reed Brandt. He and Trudy Wrape were married July 2, 1981, in Cape Girardeau.

Brandt worked in insurance sales for Consolidated Insurance. He had been in the insurance business since 1974.

He a member of La Croix United Methodist Church. He was active in small groups at the church and served as an usher. He also was a member of the Kiwanis and coached youth baseball in Cape Girardeau.

Brandt was a 1967 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School where he was active in baseball, football and basketball. He was a 1971 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Matthew of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Angela C. Brandt of Berkeley, Calif. and Amy E. Brandt of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Michael Brandt of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Deborah Scott of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

Funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at La Croix United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Watts and Jim Beise officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
