John Edward "Ed" Polack, a talented musician and painter from Cape Girardeau, passed away at 67. Known for his St. Louis cityscapes, Ed's life was marked by both artistic achievement and chronic illness.

John Edward "Ed" Polack was born in Cape Girardeau April 22, 1957. He died Saturday, July 21. 2024, at Jackson Manor nursing home at the age of 67.

He was the second son of Dorothy Polack of Cape Girardeau and the late Robert J. Polack Sr.

His survivors include his mother, Dorothy Polack, 94; his brother, Robert Polack Jr.; and his sister-in-law, Joy Bell, who all reside in Cape Girardeau.

Ed graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1975. He earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Southeast Missouri State University and a master's degree in fine arts from the University of New Mexico in the early 1980s.

He was a musician, playing guitar with several professional groups in St. Louis during the 1980s. He was also an accomplished painter of St. Louis city scenes, with numerous works commissioned by corporations and individuals in St. Louis.

Ed struggled with debilitating chronic illness during the second half of his life.

A private graveside service will be held for immediate family members.

Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
