SIKESTON -- John O. Nelson, 70, of Sikeston, died Monday, Feb. 21, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center. He was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Conran, son of Raymond W. and Alice Hodge Nelson. He and Aline Hyde were married March 24, 1942. Formerly of East Prairie, he had lived in Sikeston 18 years. He was a retired farmer, member of VFW Post 4291 in Charleston, and charter member of Sikeston Eagles. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II...

SIKESTON -- John O. Nelson, 70, of Sikeston, died Monday, Feb. 21, 1994, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Conran, son of Raymond W. and Alice Hodge Nelson. He and Aline Hyde were married March 24, 1942.

Formerly of East Prairie, he had lived in Sikeston 18 years. He was a retired farmer, member of VFW Post 4291 in Charleston, and charter member of Sikeston Eagles. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John Nelson of Sikeston; three daughters, Brenda Nelson of Sikeston, Janet Oatsvall and Frona Patrick of East Prairie; a brother, Raymond Nelson Jr. of Franklin, Tenn.; five sisters, Elvine Blankenship, Marie Myers and Mary Chambliss of New Madrid, Betty Smith of Marston, Shirley Brown of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 6 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Todd Wymer officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
