John Claude Norman, 76, of Jackson passed away Thursday, April 4, 2024, at his home.
He was born Jan. 17, 1948, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, son of Henry B. and Clementine Caneer Norman. He and Linda Charlotte Layne were married June 4, 1967, at Senath United Methodist Church in Senath.
John was a 1966 graduate of Senath-Hornersville High School, where he was a standout athlete in basketball, track and baseball. He graduated in 1970 from Arkansas State University with a bachelor’ degree in agronomy.
John worked as a Missouri State Highway Patrolman from 1971 to 2004 in Troop E as a sergeant. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church and a member of the Methodist Men’s Club. John enjoyed coaching Optimist wrestling, baseball and football.
Loving survivors include his wife of 56 years, Linda Norman; three sons, Brandon (Rhonda) Norman, Tyson (Jackie) Norman and Nathan (Audrey) Norman; grandchildren, Randa (Ty) Selsor, Bryce Norman, Noah Norman, Owen Norman, Eve Scott, Stepanie Beattie and Shelly Proffer; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, JoAnn Norman (Lou Riley).
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Charlotte Jean Norman.
Memorial visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the church, with the Rev. Charles Buck officiating.
Memorials may take the form of donations to New McKendree United Methodist Church, Mercy Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
