SCOTT CITY -- John E. Mirgaux, 88, of Cahokia, Ill., died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at his home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1910, at Illmo, son of Lawrence and Amelia Etter Mirgaux. He and Stella Lee Petitt were married in April 1930. She died Nov. 4, 1993.
Mirgaux retired as a riverboat captain with Luhr Brothers Construction in Columbia, Ill. He was a member of Maplewood Park Baptist Church in Cahokia and its XYZ Club, and Operating Engineers Local 513 in St. Louis.
Survivors include two sons, Harvey Mirgaux Sr. of Cahokia, Johnny Mirgaux of Truxton; a daughter, Helen Ledbetter of Cedar Hill; two sisters, Alvina Sandvos and Evelyn Braun of Scott City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and two grandsons.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Andy DeWitt officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
