John Mills

Funeral for John D. Mills of Union, Mo., was held Saturday at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union. The Rev. Daniel Kriefall officiated. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery at Union.

Mills, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at Sunset Health Care Center in Union.

He was born Aug. 24, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, son of John and Annie Rawling Mills. He and Dorothy Sander were married Sept. 23, 1940, in Cape Girardeau. She died July 11, 1994.

Mills had worked at JCPenney in Pekin, Ill.; and Carps Stores in Owensville, Mo., and in Union. He then worked at Inland Container, retiring in 1978. He had lived in Union since 1958.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Civil Air Patrol.

Mills served in the U.S. Army from 1943-45.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Mills of Arizona; a daughter, Debra Berg of Cupertino, Calif.; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
